Twelve year old boy named Ralph meets another boy named Piggy on the surface of the beach described to have a scar .Ralph finds a conch near a lagoon and blows in it to call the remainder of the boys that had crashed on the island.

They called a large meeting and decided to vote for a leader to direct everyone on the road to survival.Ralph is named leader because he blew on the conch. His main goal was to GET RESCUED.

Jack Merridew was the choir group leader and is very orderly and controlling.

Jack is always degrading Piggy and making fun of him about his weight, glasses, asthma, and peculiar knowledge.

Boys are assigned different responsibilities and tasks to complete on the island like building shelter, gathering food, and making fire. Ralph ordered Jack to conduct the fire on the top of the mountain with his choir boys.
*Jack was obsessed with killing pigs in order to gain authority and control over the boys.
The boys missed an opportunity to get rescued by a nearby ship because Jack and the boys responsible for keeping the fire and smoke going were too busy hunting for meat.
*Chaos and destruction breaks out when the tasks aren't getting completed and boys are doing whatever they please. Ralph doens't think that he is cable of continueing his leadership role because of the disorder that has broken out on the island.
*The littleuns (little ones) are having constant nightmares of a thing referred to as the "beastie". The boys cannot identify what the beastie really is and what form it comes in.

A paracautist lands on the corner of the island from a battle in the sky and is mistaken for the beastie by the boys.

*Jack does not agree with Ralph and Piggy so he angerly leaves their group and starts his own. Other boys join his group and are controlled by Jacks superiority.
Jack and the other of the boys kill a boy named Simon one night after mistakening him for the beastie in the woods. They were circled around a fire singing long chants about killing and capturing the beastie; they were not themselves that night.

The beastie is later on identified to be a pig that Jack and his followers killed. The pig was described to be beheaded and swarmed with flies in the middle of the woods.

*The author, William Golding, depicted the Lord of the Flies to be the pigs head on the stick because it represented the devil and its evil character.
* The boys suggested that the beastie was really them.
Jack and his followers steal Piggy's glasses in order to make a fire.
*Ralph and Piggy go to Jacks Castle Rock, the mountain on the island, and attempt to retrieve Piggy's glasses and resolve the tension and hatred between them. They do not comprise and come to a settlement so one of the boys named Roger, pushes a large rock down the mountain and kills Piggy.
*Jack and the other boys go on a hunt to capture and kill Ralph by burning the island down.
As Ralph runs for his life he arrives on the surface of the beach. Ralph looks up and is surprised to see a man in military uniform standing above him. He then realizes that they have been rescued.

Lord of the Flies shows how anyone can lose their state of mind when faced with the obstacle of surival. Conflicts arose and the boys lost their sense of control, stability, and state of mind. Their reaction to the situation was a test of their sanity.
